A Reflexologist's Response to Insomnia

Imagine yourself at four in the morning, watching the hands of the clock turn round and round. You say to yourself that you need sleep, tomorrow is going to be a killer, your mind is racing, planning, arguing. You toss and turn trying to get comfortable. After all sleep is a natural state, so why can't you just drop off like a contented baby?

Well, there are several reasons why we fail to fall asleep. Perhaps it is due to a chemical imbalance in the body, or we are worried about something and we cannot rid our minds of anxious thoughts. Insomnia is one of the unfortunate by-products of modern life. Generally, our ancestors settled down into an evening of storytelling and reminiscing. It is difficult to work in the dark and candlelight has a soothing effect on the senses. There was a natural rhythm to life.

Reflexology links into that natural rhythm.

For those of you who haven't heard about reflexology it is a specific technique that stimulates the nerve endings on your feet. And there are over 7,000 of them. The reflex point that will help insomnia can be found inside the big toe and in the centre of the foot. These points help trigger a natural relaxation response that helps your body readjust to stress and strain.
