A majestic, infinite sea of yellow sand, trimmed with a wide belt of green. At Shapotou stands a dune one hundred meters high; Southward-facing' the dune curves inward at its center. When tourists go sand-sledging, the sand thunders, giving rise to the name Shapo Mingzhong-"Sounding Bell on the Sand Slope."
The Baotou-Lanzhou Railwaym, built 50 years ago, has become part of the scenery. Shapotou epitomizes the harmonious coexistence of man and desert adapting to the laws of nature. |
