Important Points
· This form is adapted from Roll the Arms Back of Sun-style Taijiquan. Turn the body and move the feet in a direction that is side-forward; the whole pattern of movement of both feet should be in a "Z" line.
· When turning the feet against the ground, first turn the front foot with heel as pivot and then turn the back foot with the ball of the foot as pivot. The weight can be shifted between the two feet, but not too much either way.
· In the movement of drawing back the hands, bend the arms but not the wrists or hands.
· Push the palm forward 90 degrees from the direction of the arm and hand of the previous movement. Do not move the hand too high or too far when brushing aside over the knee; stop it at the side of hip.
· Turn the body and step forward in an agile, smooth way.
Finish the drawing in of the back foot at the same time as the pushing of the palms. When moving the back foot forward, land it about 8 inches or 20 centimeters behind the inside of the supporting foot.
Common Mistakes
· Abruptly speeding up the movement when turning the body and stepping forward.
· Shifting the body center too far when turning the feet against the ground, so that the body sways and movement hesitates.
· When turning the feet against the ground, the feet are too close, making it hard to turn the body.
· When stepping forward, the feet move straight forward in a "T" line instead of a "Z" line.
· Bending the leg without drawing in the foot when pushing the palms, resulting in a "bow stance and push palm."
