Rubella is caused by infection of rubella virus. It may occur in the four seasons of a year, but prevails in winter and spring. All infants except those below the age of 1 are very susceptible to attack by wind, heat and seasonal pathogenic factors because of the insufficiency of external protection in infants, the younger the infants are the higher the incidence is. The disease belongs to contact infection. Therefore, it is liable to become epidemic in children in collective organs. Its clinical process is fine. Its symptoms are generally mild and its prognosis is favourable. Spontaneous cure is possible. After one time of infection, the patient can gain lifelong immunity against the disease no matter how mild or severe the symptoms are, while the recurrence is very rare.
